AI Metrics

AI metrics and KPIs measure whether artificial intelligence systems deliver real business value — not just whether they're being used. Explore definitions, formulas, and benchmarks for tracking AI cost, output quality, adoption, and performance.

AI Adoption Rate

The percentage of eligible users actively using an AI tool or feature within a given period (daily, weekly, or monthly). Measures whether AI investment is reaching real workflows — license counts and deployments alone don't.

AI First-Pass Rate

The percentage of AI outputs that pass human review on the first attempt, without rework. Distinct from acceptance rate: this measures quality at the review gate, and determines whether scaling an AI workflow spreads value or spreads rework.

AI Incremental Business Value

AI Incremental Business Value is the net financial gain an AI system creates, measured as total value generated (revenue, cost savings, prevented losses) minus the full cost of operating it. It connects AI investment directly to bottom-line impact rather than usage activity.

AI Response Acceptance Rate

AI Response Acceptance Rate is the percentage of AI-generated outputs, including answers, drafts, code, and recommendations, that users accept without editing or rejection. It measures whether AI assistance produces work people actually use. Its inverse is the Manual Override Rate.

Cost Per AI-Resolved Task

Cost Per AI-Resolved Task is the fully loaded cost to complete one task using an AI system, including compute, infrastructure, and human review expenses. Token costs alone dramatically understate true cost; human review is often the largest component.

Decision Velocity

Decision Velocity is the average time between a business question being asked and a decision being made on it. Used to measure whether AI and analytics tools are actually shortening the path from data to action.
